If inventory increases, the company\u2019s profit\u2014and consequently, the corporate income tax payable\u2014also increases. Conversely, if inventory decreases, the profit and taxes payable decrease as well.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"887\" data-end=\"1338\">This is perhaps easiest to understand with an example: Suppose a company has purchased \u20ac10,000 worth of Moomin mugs for resale. At the time of purchase, the expense is recorded in the purchases account, reducing the fiscal year\u2019s profit. However, at the end of the fiscal year, \u20ac5,000 worth of mugs remain unsold. The total inventory value is \u20ac15,147, divided among the balance sheet categories as follows: <br \/>&#8211; Raw materials and supplies: 3 897\u20ac <br \/>&#8211; Finished products: 4 000\u20ac <br \/>&#8211; Goods: 7 250\u20ac <br \/><br \/>The total inventory value has thus increased by \u20ac4,267.
